I had a couple of crisp 20's in my hand the other day and something felt off. I think the sentiment primarily came from the fact that what I was holding wasn't exactly real. When we understand that there is a growing deficit of some trillion dollars and government money for most public projects (in MN, WI, and IL just as example) is only borrowed, don't we in some ways lessen our reliance and drive towards something that is in fact non-existent? Not exactly, and that continues to be the issue.
This is the paradox of Powerball too. Money, in most cases doesn't exactly equate to happiness but the focus on it tends to cause a drift from happiness. I haven't checked, but stories from past large jackpot "winners" would likely confirm this fact. For some reason, I didn't see any stories about that anywhere the past week.
