Talib Kweli - Whats Real ft. Res!

By the people for the people

Thing is, if this debate stuff (very loosely used) was pay-per-view very many of us would tune in.
That is in high contrast to the way government was intended to be.
Maybe you see.

One of thee best songs. Even when the new album will have the most traction..
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJIwNzR1Las

Numbers

10 minutes of "exercise" per day definitely has the potential to change your body, mind and habits.
It need not be 30 minutes or an hour, but it may definitely grow to that point.
Remember that

Trust levels

It's not a bad idea to take what I will call a trust "temperature" from time to time.
How come some of us trust more, trust less, might not trust at all?
There are reasons for this, and without awareness, human beings are much less capable of change.
We may have lived in an openly trusting household as a child, we may have had an alcoholic or abusive mother of father, we may have had a coach or teacher who really bruised our ego at some stage of  development (this happens quite a lot).
Here's the thing. Just because we had our ego or heart bruised at one point or another does not mean that it does not get any better or change for what really is the common good. And the actual truth is that it might even get worse or get better and then bruised again.
Some of us get stuck. And some of us get stuck really bad. And when we are stuck really bad, the only real thing that will get us unstuck is another human being or some human beings. This is true. Thus, we need each other. Far more badly than any of us are at times capable of realizing. But it's still true.
In all the glitz and glam and Chris Rock jokes of last night, ALL of those folks in that theater need one another and love and connectedness just as bad as the people living in the rural trailer homes I saw in Ohio and West Pennsylvania yesterday. This is true. So BS all we want and rationalize and escape and maybe complain, but human beings are human beings. Tigers need other tigers. Penguins need the penguins. You almost never see a penguin alone on a sheet of ice do you?
There is a reason for that.
We are no different.
And it is really damn cool actually when we see through the screens and money and nonsense and we can look, feel, and relate to the hearts of other human beings.
Remember, physical bruises on our skin do not remain forever. Often they will subside in maybe a week or two or three. While the heart and mind may heal in a slightly different manner, it is still almost never anything that should take a decade or even a lifetime.
But it happens. And it doesn't need to.
But people (you and me and YOU) are the ones who ultimately alter these trajectories.
That's the most beautiful thing of all.

True

Thinking about we would really need to survive from time to time is certainly not a negative thing.

Nas - Let There Be Light (ft. Tre Williams)

Favorite

One of my favorite comments of all time is: "You can't escape what you give your attention to."
Makes sense.

Time II

As I grow, I like to think of some things as more winning battles or losing battles.
In regards to time and our relationship with time, it seems as though striving and working to dictate all of the vast majority of our time is a losing battle.
Having balance between allowing our time to work for us and our health along with meeting goals, deadlines, expectations, etc. that occur in typical daily life is likely to be beneficial.
In the end, we likely look back and consider some ways in which we could have utilized or maximized time on our true favor. This is important.
Why not do now or do soon what we feel we would believe or want to do when we are 80, 90 - if we are fortunate to be living that long?
It makes sense to me, and I like that.
And there are many, non-human metaphors around which is great!!
Much love

Viewpoints

These are so significant when it comes to well-being.
Take the topic of time for a moment.
I like to think that our relationship with time is one of the most significant ones we have.
Seeing time from this stance instead of a "demand" simply opens us up.
We become more free, less stringent, more capable, and very likely more focused.
This is so important.
Especially when we create a legacy, we leave a legacy, and what will be will mostly be.
There could be time to do it all. But we are the ones who decide.
Be True. And do it primarily for you.

Somekindofdesire

Faster. Faster. Faster.
Ipads in the airports. Wi-Fi in every spot but Antarctica (I think).
It's of course not all bad, but our brains are much more plastic than we may know.
This means that with all of the insistence on getting things now and getting things quick and being able to access screens in every which place, the neurons in our mind rewire accordingly. Since our hearts mostly follow along with our minds, we can become tricked to feel we need to fill up our "empty time" with something deemed important. A byproduct of such a push or belief is impatience and actual confusion. But it's a good thing we are in this boat together.
The cool thing is that as quick as this cognitive wiring happens, it can reverse and slow down too.
But it does take some kind of desire, some push back if you will, to take back our lives and the time that we are naturally given.
Most of it is driven by the dollar and growth, which matters - but not as much as our health.
It's all health, that is the thing. It's all health. And you/we/me/us, we're all fortunately steering our own ship for the most part.
Yay!

Evolution

This here is a bike.
If you happened to be a bike, what kind of a bike might you be?
A. 1 speed
B. 3 speed
C. 7 or more speeds

This is a fun and important distinction. And since we are usually better at thinking of ourselves in metaphors, it is pretty practical as well.
The final question is that if we categorize ourselves as a 1 or 7+ speed, is it possible to "become" a different bike or adopt a trait or two enabling us to maybe acclimatize ourselves to conditions or achieve a goal or aspiration? This can be fun and mind-opening to think about.
We even might need to get on a bike to better understand. Behavior!

Cultivating

These kinds of things certainly aren't done for us, but it it's probably a good idea to every so often imagine as if we are 1 mile above wherever we may live, reside, etc. This enables us to truly picture what we would see and it only cultivates more right-brain thinking - which is critical in the grand scheme of creativity and collaboration and potential world saving. There is much more to see in this world than will automatically meet the eyes, but we likely won't be able to envision if we insist on living solely with the two that we were given.

Mentalitiies

When we see trash or something that is land-contaminating, do we tell ourselves "oh that's not mine so it is not quite my responsibility" or do we reflect on the fact that this land is all our land and there truly is only one land, so minus well do something small to help the place that gives me life. These are important questions. And there is only 1home, and it doesn't even come close to ending where our mass meets the Atlantic and Pacific.

Enjoy the day. :) :)

Humbling

Finding things that humble us is fairly important in regards to living a more complete, whole life.

For example, I'm so damn humbled by the sun (always been I guess) that it makes it near impossible to really lose at anything. Ever.

But that's just me.

Maybe.

False sense

That power one may feel in a car in regards to road ownership over say a biker or pedestrian - that isn't what we call real power. People acting from this place continues to be both funny and a little saddening at the same time.

Love

If you're wondering what true love is, it's pretty much that thing that survives anything.

Side/ramble note: But watch the upcoming months for anything in presidential coverage that we might consider to be loving. The tally marks are not likely to reach 5. Or even 1, and that's a little scary.

Evidence - Same Folks feat. Fashawn

It's interesting

Because when you really listen, the birds are singing probably in part because you're there.
This thing alone points to the importance of getting your ass outside.
And it doesn't even have to be for your own sake.
Which is good because paradoxically, we're so damn bad at doing things that are good for our very own selves.
:)

Metaphors

We're probably no different than an electric cord. With no real outlet, turning on is awful damn hard.

When quick isn't good

Quick is definitely not good when it's dismissive of what both you and the planet need.
So many damn examples from every day life. This means it can change at any time too.

A recipe for good or better health:

1. Looking at the sun/sky/something natural for every 20 minutes looking at a screen.
2. Having one cup of tea per day (any kind)
3. 10-15 minutes of exercise per 24 hours. This cannot only be walking. Maybe skipping

The ego

We know people like it, but wanting to grow and not wanting to be criticized is a really difficult dilemma.
It's like a tree looking for only sun and being resistant to rain (that never happens). That tree wouldn't live.

Tipped point?

1. If you don't think money is the main propeller of all the political jargon we see, you're out your damn mind.

2. The problem with this (and I'm guessing most politicians if pressed would attest) is that it makes it quite a bit tougher to fully trust and act from a place of whole truth when money - sometimes unpatriotic or dirty - is at the core of decision-making. Sure there is some degree of moral and ethical action, but what America and every damn person is looking for is more than that.

It's like this. Two vehicles are going down a road together. Politics is a large bus and it cruises down the highway next two a smaller and probably cleaner vehicle. The politics (or USA) bus is churning out toxic gas and while the ride might be fun and cool for a while, that vehicle is destined for breakdown or failure - and NOT because of the makeup of the what is on four wheels itself but BECAUSE OF THE PEOPLE INSIDE OF IT. This is what is so tough for people to conceptualize. Regardless of a vehicle or system that could be an ultimate failure, it will always be the folks who occupy such a system who will be responsible for acting in a manner that might not turn it around but at minimum steer it on a course that could help save the most of us who occupy the smaller yet similar ride. Guess what else, the road we are on is the same damn road - it always has been and it always will be.

We are people. Not idiots but people. Quit being a damn idiot and stand up for what we first and foremost are. Tigers don't wake up and not act like tigers. Penguins don't do that either. Butterflies are the absolute same. People don't get this for the most part and it's one of the saddest and most confounding thing of our times. It will continue to be too and this had been/is the disturbing yet exciting trend.

We LOVE to disconnect ourselves from nature and animalistic imagery but we are no different at all. And with this said, the fact that they are disappearing or some being on the cusp of disappearance should be alarming and frightening and all of the above to us as human creatures. Timely stuff, indeed.

Paradox

It likely varies person to person, but are "smart" phones making us dumber and less aware or truly enhancing our intelligence? I am pretty sure the sky, sun, and stars are getting a few less looks and this does in some ways matter. For both eye health and sky health it seems.

Why not

AND

Your phone might be the absolute coolest one there is, but it probably isn't going to save your life.
Nor the life of your kids. Or even maybe their kids.
This is important.

It's all behavior.

If we're hiding something (or some things) it's probably best to go through a little process similar to this. And this does likely involve writing thoughts or feelings or actions down. Yes, on some paper.

1. What am or might I be hiding?
2. How come or what are some of the reasons I am hiding this/these things?
3. Is there something "wrong" about me that others might be offended or put-off to know?
4. How could my life or days be better by discontinuing this hiding behavior?
5. Could revealing more of myself be better for me (and for others!!!) in any way?

Call it a more "real" or beneficial cost-benefit analysis. One that we all are going through and experience in the course of days. The problem is that most of us sit, wait, and then it at times does get too late. These 5 things could help, and they actually could help save us all. Since nobody is going it alone - anywhere - this makes complete and total sense. Liberate yourself.

And know that the answer to number 3 is definitely "No."

Operating without fear

Speaking from true experience, when we come to learn that within most every experience exists some silver lining, this is the spot of genuine freedom, the sweet spot, or of liberation from self to a degree. It is not that easy to find, and that's kind of the tricky part. It seems it involves some risk, some trust, some giving, some good fortune, openness to help, and a perseverant belief that the universe is ultimately a good place regardless what we may at times be "taught" to think and feel.

For most of the profound thinkers in our history, I'd say that imagination was a key trait.
In 2016, what is the state of such imagination and is our constant need for knowledge/screens/immediate knowledge (Siri? wtf) helping, hindering, or have little effect.
I know what side I tend to be on, hopefully some others are having a similar dialogue.

Florence + The Machine - Cosmic Love

Music & the truth

These are two things that just do not exist separately.

Two songs coming.

Things that spin

People helping people, I'm convinced this is the formulae for all things good.
In this digital age, are we moving further from conceptualization of real time?
This is concerning to me, as we have made a somewhat sweeping movement towards gadgets and/or screens influencing our day to day moves. This is somewhat scary, primarily from the standpoint of it's difficult to help others out in real time when we are not quite clued into our surroundings or happenings in real time or the actual moment. When we miss moments, we simply miss things - especially opportunities to act on the side of kindness. As people, we all still get touched by that and the craving is one that lasts.

Lupe Fiasco - Kick Push

Won't see it

Chances are you won't see it anywhere on CNN (CNN sucks) but since passion is one of the most connective fibers of all humanity, what is the one thing that we are all passionate about?

(The oil-based economy is collapsing)
Mainly because it's centralized on an unsustainable asset.
Poses the question for new-school economists: Can something be an actual asset without being sustainable or life-giving? If it's not helping the planet, in the long run it's not probably helping you.

Yes II

Mindless tactics

Throwing cigarette butts on the ground is in ways similar to saying screw you to the planet.
Play a game - next time you're out walking count the litter and I predict #'s are around 30-50.

Oxygen

As people, we are pretty much like balloons.
We get filled/built up, we deflate, some of us rupture.
We all start little though, are there aren't quite limitations if we understand the concept.
Ebb and flow. we cycle, we triumph, we fall, we cry, we reappear.
If we are like balloons, even in our most shriveled state we are dependent on the oxygen of another to fill us up. Remember that.
Air is life

It's almost like we forget

It's like we forget this is the United States of America when we tune into the jargon and feuding and he said she said we said garbage that's ultimately publicized. Who would ever want to work in an environment like that? It is though it's as inflated and amped up (by dollar signs) similar to Jose Canseco or Mark McGwire. Guess what - things that get amped up or juiced are not sustainable. They never have been. They are fun and conversation-worthy for quite some time and people can make some bucks but then they gone. Credit to Barack for putting up with so many of these sad truths and still getting some important things done. He probably could have done more but the state of things in these seemingly "Un"united States is not likely where it needs to be. And the money signs I see in Hillary's eyes don't give me too much encouragement.

Stop forgetting, or don't let them make you forget.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3VnAdQghhOY
If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough.

Further

Since we aren't likely to know everything even if we live 'til we're 120, how come we at times strive so hard? This type of motion can lead to quite a few problems. It's important to strive, but this "knowledge of not knowing" can allow us to better be with ourselves. In other words, it usually leads to a better existence.

Learning III

We can believe or project all we want, but we don't necessarily learn something until we actually do it. And even then, we might not fully know it. Doesn't that suck!!

More proof on the definite importance of one another :)

One Be Lo - Decepticons

The Future

Being a human means we like to look to the future but we also don't like to look to the future. It's a living conundrum, an existential issue, whatever we want to call it. Fear is a future-based emotion. It always has been. Think about that. We don't get fearful of things already happened. That state doesn't exist. Here's where the quandary lies when it comes to fear-based action. Since we can't completely project what will happen, we tune in to what some say or believe what might happen and we form our own belief systems from that point. The majority of us do not grow up in a setting seen in Revenant (check that out soon) or Iceland or Antarctica (which may be inhabited before long). This means we mainly exist in mini-spheres of the global sphere. But the thing is that with all of the connectedness and globalization of communication and what-not, these mini spheres are popping like bubbles we would blow on a summer day. This means something.

For one, it means that America is very likely to look plenty different in 15-20 years than it does now. It has happened in Europe - ask Germans how they are coping with immigration - and it means that it is going to happen here sooner than many think. It almost may be another Ellis Island scenario which actually wouldn't be that bad at all. We can't be globally connected in every which way and then choose to be disconnected in other ways. That is an odd human state and it is a goofy way of being or looking at things. You'll watch these "debates" and what we can do about immigration issues but it is not going to stop anyone from knocking on our doors. People are sneaking in here as I am writing this.* And we are spending billions of dollars on patrolling or in ways to prevent such action. Mainly, people need a place to go. Go means live and live means function and maybe even flourish. Time will tell. But don't be surprised if the Mediterranean landscape ends up looking like the Atlantic with people searching for a place to be. After all, this is the 1Home and for now the only one we have.

#Kindofaramble

*We could be having these probable conversations now (and on a televised and hugely marketed level) but we elect to usually not deal with things until they are at problematic proportions (Oil??). Plus we talk about stuff in relation to the dollar, which carries little weight when breaking things down to the facts. It's the American way, it has a base in fear, and it is at times a frightening way to be.

Just watch

As has been the case, watch how the words uses to report on this presidential stuff are war-like.

"Civil war" "battles" "troops on the ground" "Duel it out.." And there will be plenty more to come. War is something we are typically working to avoid, right? Also this is mainly a contest - while highly glamorized - for leader of the "free world" right?

(Message)

Entitlement's a bitch. Don't let that thing grab you - wherever you are or whatever you do.

Green Day - Longview

Rigamaroll

Health care is pretty much defined as the way in which we do things.
It's become complicated, messy and highly systematic, and a byproduct of the system is in some ways poorer overall health.
By overall health, I'm talking about the health of us all.
Of course there's still great care out there and many phenomenal minds and caregivers. We're fortunate for that. But it still mainly remains how I defined it above.

Take bread for example. Simple, right? It is eaten around the world and in some places is the only or primary food - even with nothing on it :)
Well, something as simple as bread and what makes up a piece of bread has become a metaphor for our health.
Our ears get polluted with this talk of "whole-grains" and how to choose what kind of bread to eat.
Bread was never crappy, but then it became crappy primarily because of economics and moves to please everybody. Look at how many loaves of bread there are in a market sometime.
In some ways, that's not right.
And it some ways, that simple visual has made humans crazy.

A whole grain means the bread is made with the grain close to as it was harvested. This is pretty much a good thing. It comes from the earth and gets to your mouth without much processing. A half or a grain or even no grain (white bread!!) means that it's not whole. And since it's not whole, it is not going to make those who choose to consume it very whole. We all want to be whole to a degree right? And if you are wondering, there is a definite physiological difference in eating a whole grain vs. a fraction of a grain. It might take eating just breads for a week to determine, but that is far better than not eating at all.
This wasn't meant to be this long. Maybe disregard the first paragraphs.
I guess one moral is we are what we eat. Or maybe it's more that we even become what we eat?

Choose wisely.

Where my heart's at

I like this word. I looked it up the other day and the meaning was simple: a person who takes part in something. 7-word definitions are pretty sleek. It's also a noun.

Business paperss...

Deforestation has been destroying the ecosystem - or the bigger sphere in which you and I live - for a long time now. Sadly it still is. What happens on the ground affects the sky and what happens in the sky affects what we experience on the ground. This is like 2nd-3rd grade science? Maybe it's more like 5th but I digress. We worry and wonder and look to scientists for "proof" of these things (which are no longer phenomenon - don't believe that) and then we somewhat forget that we knew this basic information all along. How we carry out knowledge, or things we learned but may believe we lost, now this is an almost separate story.

Start with the paper you consume. And I mean all of it. Newspapers or paper at work we use to print. Paper we wipe our backsides with. Greeting cards we buy. It doesn't really stop, hopefully you understand. Read those labels. If they don't read something like "100% post-consumer content" then don't buy them. The technology has long been there but the business decisions don't understandably link up. But we control the business decisions because some people are seated or standing in an office somewhere watching the dollars trickle in and making choices based upon that data. So get it together  is what I am saying. If you're buying pampers or scotty (I know it's cheaper but try to use less) or any paper products that are made of fresh trees, you are mainly contributing to the carbon cycle. Those trees produce oxygen and when they gone - so is that oxygen yield and we know that something else replaces it. I think it was called photosynthesis. Be a promoter of your 4th grade or middle school teacher who preached such information if you'd prefer to not consume for yourself.

Participate, be proper, get active in some damn way as this whole thing is just a cycle. And "replacing trees" or blahblahblah is not going to be enough as trees take a long time to grow just as you and I. Time is money yo.

Rilo Kiley - Portions for Foxes - Official Video

Read she's making a comeback. Used to be into this song

Neurons II

For what it's worth, I adopted a two window rule some time ago (when possible).
When on a computer, I try to keep the maximum number of windows open at two.
Since we know - thanks research! - that we do not do more than one thing well at once, this has seemed quite sensible. It's also been pretty effective.
On a neurobiological level, I'm pretty much just controlling my neurons and how they work. It is not much different than the billion dollar "mindfulness" industry now in effect to counter our vanishing attention spans. We pretty much do this to ourselves.
So possibly keep only two (if not one) window running at one time.
I know they're there, but we don't have to use them.
Just like a lot of things.
:)

No global warming

Here's a visual of pppms from the Hawaii lab. You know where Hawaii is.

Talib Kweli - Listen (Official Version)

Turn it around

Don't be lazy.

Don't be lazy.

Don't be lazy.

Fight that voice. (We all have it)

And don't shame yourself for being that way

That doesn't help much.

Hug a tree or pick up a piece of garbage while you're at it. That's redeeming.

Place to start

Begin by dimming the light on any screen (Tv, comp, phone). The levels of blue light is likely wreaking some havoc on your eyes.

We just like stuff

Long term solutions require an ability to think and actually project long term.
Something has happened with our evolution of mind and while we aren't fully in control, we are partially to blame.
Awareness is huge as a human being, and we have allowed our abilities to simply be aware to siphon away with our steady consumption of tools and apps and tricks for being satiated in the near-term. (If you want a metaphor, go to the eye doctor. I assure you can't see as far with an eye-diet of screens and shortsighted activities.)
Now things are at a tipping point and while gadgets and tech and tools are handy, they don't quite have the capabilities or potential to satisfy the globe on a natural or biological level. And this is where it gets tricky.
We make decisions and we accept and then we like to go back to out normal ways of being, or the spaces/places in which we've learned to be comfortable.
But there's nothing comfortable about the health of the planet, and while it is seemingly in an exhausted state - it is going to be up to those who populate it to make the challenging decisions necessary to put a frightening trend in reversal.

Facebook has changed the way we think. And by that, I mean changed the ways our brains process and look at the construct of time and being satisfied in the immediate & present tense. The issue in part with simply pointing, clicking, and liking is that often it seems to me we don't take the time necessary to think critically about how come we like something so much (or so little ha) and this has altered our neurological makeup, which alters how we have a tendency to behave. Simpler put, the neurons in your head are forming different and stronger connection between cells.
And the thing is, when we take the time to understand or comprehend how come we like or enjoy something, we in turn get to better understand ourselves and how we would like to grow, and this leads to more formal and productive actions.
I guess it all comes back to math.
Anyways. Do some research. Dig a bit. Save a library near you that is close to shuttering because of infrequent visitors in the digital age.
There is so much good and meaningful stuff to consume out there.
Choose wisely.

Talkin' about Practice

Nothing important has ever been achieved without some sort of work ethic. And yes you can do it.

Nelly Furtado - Powerless (Say What You Want)

Time & love

If time is love and most of us in some way want love, how does that relate to our use of time?
Discuss

Brother Ali - Rain Water

Even simpler

We screw up - and believe - these sayings all the time but no pain no gain really should be expressed "no gain if no pain." The difficulty is that most of us seek or are probably taught to avoid pain which ultimately takes us out of this very rotation we're a part of.

Basic form

The fact that the world continues to move (noticed the sun position today?) either propels us or scares us or somewhere in between. We do not sit in these spots in isolation as people. While we continually try, we will never be as big as the world,  the sun, the sky, the solar system - you get my point. Attempting to harness and drive towards such an accomplishment is the very desire that contributes to a vast amount of contemporary ills (see Depression, etc.). When we accept, when we "work with" facts similar to the one above - this is where the field becomes level. This is where we begin to cease the strain and ultimately find a zone where we can do more gaining. And the best part - and the main source of joy - is that we don't have to go it alone. See how this works?

Volatility

If you weren't sure, it's not human nature.
This is the scary thing about the economy, which really is just behavior with money involved.
And humans, yes people, are making these decisions.
In most every article you read, a product of these choices over time will be reflected.
Yet most will try to rationalize and predict and assure and "comfort" and any other word you want.
But it's bad. At least I'm thinking so.
BP lost 5.2 billion dollars last year. Billion. Oil!!!
It's as is these words are just that - words - and the value is no longer attached.
Maybe it's just me.

Learning II

Kindness is that thing that goes around in a circle (like the planet) and I haven't yet experienced anything near as spherical.

On learning

If we're not sure how to handle change (It doesn't mean we can't handle it), it makes it much more challenging to live an authentic life.  We might also need to ask for help :)

Heiruspecs-5ves

Boiling it down

Since math and something quick is what we usually prefer (and a need to some way personalize), if your most keen sense - or senses - were under attack by a force outside of your definite control, what would you do? It seems as though some of these whales probably made it and some of them didn't. Does not appear to be much different than a man or woman on two feet. Plus if you noticed, they did not likely perish in isolation. If we as people know that we're going to go - this is a choice we would probably also make. Connected?

Even though it might be selfie time!! there is still some potential in everything.

And

Don't have to look much further than this article to see what is a humanitarian crisis facing this world. Attention Germany, US, China, anywhere. What it means to be a human is in need of a re-definition and it better well link some old with some of what is becoming commonly "new." In our psyches, we have become somewhat fooled into thinking we are quite more important than we actually are.

"Thousands of people have flocked to the tourist resort of Skegness since Sunday to see the whales, with many taking selfies in front of the carcasses as marine biologists dissect them."

Wake up wake up wake up

It's the 2nd of the month...
Such a great song

Seriously though, if scientists or oceanographers have to take more "time" to figure out how some of this went down? That's peculiar. The time is now on these environmental issues. And no bigger and more important piece of environment than the oceans. Without them, we all gone. Life is fragile - ask these whales.

Anyone else thankful for anything that might seem inconspicuous?

Game Change

With population incline and continued resource confusion/obtrusion, lions won't be the only ones. Comes down to it, we need better managers. Mismanagement is almost a universal issue, and it encompasses things quite more important than professional sports.
